So today, I was very excited to try what Stonesoft can offer. As everyone knows (or not) Stonesoft was recently acquired by McAfee (McAfee Press Release), with this move, it helps McAfee delivers NGFW and NGIPS to the global demand of network security solution.
Long story short, I'm very familiar with McAfee's current firewall solution which named McAfee Firewall Enterprise (MFE). This firewall is based on previously known Sidewinder firewall (which was acquired by
McAfee also from buying Secure Computing, very rich guy you are McAfee). I'm not sure whether McAfee will plan to stop MFE or it will be positioned on other market (small to medium). Like I said, MFE was a second to nature to me when it comes to its feature, I have successful implementation with this guy. Right now, what I just want to do is try to compare MFE with Stonesoft's FW solution. Oh, did I forgot to tell that Stonesoft was one of the few firewall greatly recommended by NSS Labs this 2013 result? Yes it did! Just do some Google search about it. ;-)
That kind of news what makes me interested more about Stonesoft FW. Aside from knowing what this guy can offer, other main reason I want to know is how can existing MFE customer able to transfer to this McAfee's new member. We are talking about policy migration, yes, McAfee might develop a tool to migrate MFE policy to Stonesoft FW. But that's not just the only thing I will try to study, of course I will include stuff such as new deployment strategy it might have better than MFE, since as we know we are talking about NGFW + NGIPS guy here.
I will try (not promising) that I will post here on the weekend about the result of my evaluation. So see you again. :-)
